A hiking and running paradise for the entire family, Saalbach-Hinterglemm is situated at an altitude of 1050 metres above sea level.

With a height of 2336 metres, the Gaisstein mountain is the highest mountain in this valley and central Europe’s highest grass covered mountain.

Here you will find a total of:
  • 400 km of marked hiking trails as well as
  • 50 km of marked Nordic walking and running trails
  • 4 summer cable cars transport you quickly and comfortably to the area’s most important mountains: the Schattberg and Kohlmais cable cars in Saalbach and the the Zwölferkogel and Reiterkogel cable cars in Hinterglemm

Train at the end of the valley – save the best for last!

Talschluss des Glemmtals - eine der schönsten Wandertouren in Salzburg.

A trip on the valley train is fun for young and old! The train runs every hour from the turnaround to the Lindling alpine chalet – a perfect start for wonderful hikes! The walk from the turnaround to the Lindling alpine chalet takes about a half hour.

From here it is just about 10 minutes to the instructional hiking trail. Wooden signs are posted along the trail with instructions for different activities and interesting information about the plants found in the Alps.

 

The seven summits of Saalbach Hinterglemm

A challenging tour for conditioned mountain hikers!
The Seven Summits Tour covers nearly 24 kilometres and a difference in altitude of 1413 metres across the highest summits of the Glemm Valley. This tour is a true adventure for experienced mountaineers and sure-footed hikers.

A quick run-down of the Seven Summits Tour:

  • Sommerurlaub in Saalbach-Hinterglemm: die 7-Summits-Tour ist ein einmaliges Wander-Erlebnis.

    Take the Schattberg X-Press to the start of the tour.
  • The marked route leads hikers over the Stemmerkogel and Hochkogel mountains to the technically-advanced ascent on the Hochsaalbachkogel mountain.
  • Keep hiking over the Bärensteigkogel, the Manlitzkogel and Mittagskogel mountains to the last and highest mountain in the Glemm Valley, the 2363 metre high Gaisstein.
  • Lastly, a challenging descent into the valley over the Birgl awaits hikers. There are no alpine chalets along this route; therefore hikers should prepare very carefully for this tour with perfect equipment, plenty of food and current weather information for the day as well as alternatives for an earlier-than-planned descent.

  • Please note the operating hours of the Schattberg X-Press: early trip (Mon - Fri) 7:30 to 7:40 am, the cable car re-opens at 9:00 am.
  • You will need your JOKER Card for the early trip.
  • This tour is challenging even for experienced mountain hikers. Take two full meals, some fruit and four litres of water per person.
  • Hiking shoes or boots are required – sneakers are not suitable for the Seven Summits Tour!
